37 Residences Ready for Ministers, PM’s Location Uncertain

The government has prepared 37 official residences for newly appointed ministers and state ministers, according to Adilur Rahman, Adviser to the Ministry of Housing and Public Works. He briefed reporters at the Secretariat on Monday, outlining the arrangements ahead of the forthcoming cabinet swearing-in.

However, the official residence for the Prime Minister has yet to be finalised. “The Prime Minister will be accommodated wherever they prefer,” Adilur Rahman said. He added that discussions with the BNP regarding the choice of residence are planned, and the decision will follow their preference.

Ministerial Residences: Locations and Status

The 37 houses are distributed across key areas of Dhaka, including Minto Road, Hair Road, Dhanmondi, and Gulshan. Some are still occupied by advisers and will be cleared for the new ministers once required. Preparations are also underway to construct additional houses if needed.

Minto Road10Ready, partly occupied by advisers
Hair Road8Fully ready
Dhanmondi12Ready, some advisers still present
Gulshan7Ready, partially occupied

Adilur Rahman noted that the residences have been prepared in anticipation of the swearing-in, ensuring immediate availability for the incoming ministers. “This government assumed office through a popular movement. Over the past 18 months, we have worked to serve the public interest and to transition the country from 15 and a half years of authoritarian rule to a new trajectory. We have remained accountable to the people for our actions,” he said.

Prime Minister’s Official Residence

Even before the elections, the interim government had begun exploring options for the Prime Minister’s official residence. Several locations were considered:

  • State Guest House, Jamuna

  • Speaker and Deputy Speaker’s residences in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar near the Parliament

  • A site within the Ministry of Defence precinct

Ultimately, no final decision was made during the interim period. Current speculation suggests that the State Guest House, Jamuna could be designated as the Prime Minister’s residence, though no official confirmation has been released.

Swearing-In and Logistics

The swearing-in ceremony for the new ministers and state ministers is expected to take place on Tuesday. The Cabinet Division has instructed the Department of Government Transport to ensure that a sufficient number of vehicles are ready for official use.

With preparations nearly complete, the government aims for a smooth transition, providing ministers with fully equipped residences immediately upon taking office.
