The swearing-in of new MPs begins at 10 a.m.

The swearing-in ceremony for the newly elected Members of Parliament (MPs) of the Thirteenth National Parliament is scheduled to commence at 10 a.m. at the Oath Hall of the Bangladesh National Parliament Secretariat. The oath will be administered by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) .

In an official letter signed by the Election Commission’s senior secretary, , it was stated:

“The Chief Election Commissioner will conduct the oath-taking for the elected Members of Parliament of the Thirteenth National Parliament, as well as the members of the Constitutional Reform Council, on 17 February at 10 a.m. in the Oath Hall of the Bangladesh National Parliament Secretariat.”

According to unofficial results of the Thirteenth National Parliament elections, a total of 297 constituencies have declared winners. The major parties and independents secured seats as follows:

A total of 50 political parties and 274 independent candidates contested the elections, according to the Election Commission (EC). Voting took place in 299 constituencies, although the results of two Chittagong constituencies (Chittagong-2 and Chittagong-4) have not yet been declared, following directives from the judiciary. Consequently, results for the remaining 297 constituencies have been announced.

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), which has secured a clear majority, will lead the next parliament with its signature symbol of a paddy sheaf. Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, which secured the second-highest number of seats, will be the principal opposition, represented by the scale balance symbol. The National Citizens’ Party, contesting in 32 constituencies under the water lily bud symbol, captured a small share of votes, while independent candidates collectively won seven seats.

The oath-taking ceremony marks a formal commencement of parliamentary duties for the MPs, setting the stage for the Thirteenth National Parliament to begin legislative proceedings and deliberations on governance, development, and constitutional reforms.
