On Wednesday, 11 March, the Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Tareq Rahman convened the first parliamentary meeting of the BNP’s legislative party at the National Parliament House. Speaking to the party’s ministers and Members of Parliament (MPs), he emphasised the importance of measured and responsible conduct, stressing that no one should comment beyond their designated responsibilities. He also advised caution when interacting with the media.
The meeting began at 11:15 a.m., chaired by Tareq Rahman. The party’s Chief Whip, Nurul Islam Moni, delivered the opening welcome address, followed by speeches from BNP Secretary General and Local Government Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed. On the stage, Mr Rahman was seated between Mr Fakhrul and Mr Salahuddin, with Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni positioned at the opposite side. A total of 209 BNP MPs attended the session.
During his address, Tareq Rahman provided detailed guidance on the party’s ongoing and upcoming public welfare initiatives. He highlighted the party’s election pledge, the “Family Card” programme, noting that implementation had already commenced prior to the ink-marking of voters’ fingers. He stated, “Many have spoken about our Family Card initiative, but we have already begun implementing the pledge even before the election ink has faded. This is BNP in action—the BNP that people wish to see.”
The Prime Minister outlined further priorities, including nationwide canal excavation projects and preparatory measures for the approaching dengue season, urging all ministers and MPs to remain vigilant.
He also addressed issues related to the July National Charter, acknowledging that some points have been met with “notes of dissent” from various quarters. He assured that the government would proceed with all feasible initiatives.
