Sitakunda Youth Killed After Trivial Dispute

A shocking act of violence marred Chand Raat in Chittagong’s Sitakunda Upazila, where a 30-year-old man was brutally beaten to death over a minor disagreement. The victim, Mohammad Raju, was deliberately lured from his home and attacked in the Madambibirhat area of Bhatiari Union on Friday evening (20 March) around 9:00 pm. Police have already arrested one suspect in connection with the case.

Raju, the son of Mohammad Harun and a resident of the Abdul Khalek Sareng household, had become involved in an escalating dispute that began earlier in the evening. Locals reported that just before iftar, tensions flared over a trivial matter concerning a small tree. During the incident, Raju’s relative, Mohammad Azam, intervened. When Raju tried to calm the situation, a heated argument ensued between the parties. Although the conflict appeared to subside temporarily, lingering resentment set the stage for a more violent confrontation later that night.

At around 9:00 pm, Azam, accompanied by his four sons and an associate named Anwar, deliberately summoned Raju from his home. The group then assaulted him with bricks and sticks, leaving him dead at the scene. Neighbours, alarmed by the violence, immediately called the national emergency helpline 999. Police quickly arrived, recovered the body, and arrested Mohammad Azam.

Mahinul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Sitakunda Police Station, confirmed that Raju’s body was sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital for a post-mortem examination. He added that legal proceedings have begun and that authorities are pursuing other individuals involved in the attack.
