An elderly retired bank officer was brutally stabbed to death after unidentified assailants broke into her home in Shibganj upazila of Bogura district, in a violent incident that has shocked the local community.
The victim, Shahanaz Begum (70), a former Principal Officer of the Bangladesh Krishi Bank, was killed on Saturday evening (4 April) at her residence in Mohabbat Nondipur village under Maidhanhatta Union. She was the wife of the late Abul Khaleq.
Police and family sources said the attack took place around 7:00pm when several unidentified individuals forcibly entered the house and repeatedly stabbed her with sharp weapons before fleeing the scene.

Victim rushed to hospital but declared dead
Following the attack, family members rushed the severely injured Shahanaz Begum to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital (SZRMC) in Bogura. However, attending doctors declared her dead upon arrival.
Her body has since been placed in the hospital morgue for post-mortem examination, as police continue their investigation into the motive and identities of the attackers.
Family recounts moments of horror
Relatives described a chaotic and distressing sequence of events. The victim’s nephew, Abu Raihan Sujon, said he was away at a local market when the incident occurred.
He stated that the victim’s son, Sajib, called him urgently, warning that unknown individuals had entered the house. Sujon said he rushed back immediately and found his aunt lying in a pool of blood inside the home.
According to him, the attackers struck the victim near the neck with a knife, while Sajib’s wife was allegedly confined to another room during the attack.
“When I arrived, I saw my aunt bleeding heavily on the floor. She had been stabbed in the neck. Sajib’s wife had been locked in another room,” he said.
Despite being transported to hospital without delay, she could not be saved.
Police launch investigation
Officer-in-Charge of Shibganj Police Station, Shahinuzzaman, confirmed that law enforcement teams were immediately dispatched to the scene after receiving reports of the incident.
He said police are working to identify those involved and determine the motive behind the killing. No arrests had been made at the time of reporting.
Authorities have not yet confirmed whether robbery, personal enmity, or another motive was behind the attack. Investigators are currently collecting evidence from the crime scene and speaking with family members and neighbours.
