The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has forecast the possibility of gusty winds and thunderstorms, with wind speeds reaching between 45 and 60 kilometres per hour, across 13 regions of the country. The alert was issued on Sunday (3 May) and covers the period from 5:00 am to 1:00 pm for inland river ports.
According to the forecast, temporary gusty or squally winds are likely to pass over the regions of Pabna, Dhaka, Tangail, Mymensingh, Faridpur, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Comilla, Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, and Sylhet. These winds are expected to originate from the west or north-west direction. The same areas may also experience rain or thundershowers during the period.
In view of the expected conditions, river ports in the affected areas have been advised to display cautionary signal number one, indicating the likelihood of adverse weather affecting navigation and river transport activities.

In a separate bulletin, the Meteorological Office stated that similar conditions of temporary gusty or squally winds accompanied by lightning and light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely to continue across all divisions of the country until the evening.
It further noted that in some areas, including parts of the capital and other regions, moderately heavy to very heavy rainfall may occur locally during this period. The prevailing weather pattern is expected to persist over the next few days, affecting all divisions intermittently.
The forecast highlights the continued instability in atmospheric conditions, with widespread convective activity leading to thunderstorm development and variable rainfall intensity across different regions of the country. River users and residents in affected districts have been advised to remain cautious in light of the potential for sudden changes in weather conditions.
