A member of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested the accused in a case involving sabotage and attempted murder filed under Hatazari Model Police Station, according to official confirmation.
The arrest was confirmed on Tuesday (5 May) afternoon by Superintendent of Police Md Saifur Rahman.
The accused, Md Monir Hossain (40), is the son of Abdul Jabbar Hossain of the Kalur Munshir Bari area under Shipatali Union in Hatazari upazila. He has been identified as the president of the Shipatali Union unit of the Awami League. He had been absconding in connection with the case prior to his arrest.
According to RAB sources, the arrest was carried out following a confidential tip-off. Acting on the information, RAB personnel conducted an operation on Monday night and detained Monir Hossain from a restaurant located in front of the Chattogram District Superintendent of Police’s office.
RAB Assistant Director AR M Mozaffar Hossain stated that the accused was apprehended in connection with a sabotage and attempted murder case. The arrest was made during a targeted operation based on intelligence inputs, and the suspect was taken into custody without incident.
Authorities further confirmed that Md Monir Hossain is also implicated in a separate case filed under the Explosives Act. He had been evading arrest in connection with these allegations.
Following his detention, the arrested individual was handed over to Hatazari Model Police Station for further legal proceedings. Police officials confirmed that subsequent actions will be taken in accordance with existing legal procedures.
Law enforcement agencies have been conducting regular operations to apprehend individuals accused in cases involving sabotage, attempted violence, and explosives-related offences.
