In Kalmakanda upazila of Netrokona district, the body of a six-year-old girl named Jannatul was recovered two days after she had gone missing. Police retrieved the deceased child early on Wednesday morning (6 April) from a paddy field in the Sanuara Jasiura village area of Pugla.
According to police and local sources, Jannatul, daughter of farmer Asad Mia, had been missing since the afternoon of Monday (4 April). Following her disappearance, her family and local residents initiated a search operation across nearby areas in an attempt to locate her. Despite sustained efforts, she could not be found on the day she went missing.
Subsequently, the Fire Service was informed, and search operations were extended to surrounding ponds, ditches, and other water bodies in the locality. However, these efforts also failed to produce any trace of the child. As the search remained unsuccessful, the family lodged a general diary (GD) with Kalmakanda Police Station, formally reporting her missing status.
After nearly two days of continued concern and searching, local police recovered her body from a paddy field at around 7:00 am on Wednesday. The body was then taken into police custody for further legal and investigative procedures.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kalmakanda Police Station, Md Siddiq Hossain, confirmed the recovery and stated that the body had been sent for post-mortem examination. He further noted that the exact cause of death would be determined once the post-mortem report is received. According to him, police have already begun an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Authorities have not yet disclosed any findings regarding how the child ended up in the field, and the investigation remains ongoing.
