Teacher Arrested in Ashulia

Police in Ashulia, Savar, have arrested a madrasa teacher following allegations of sexual harassment involving a seven-year-old female student.

The accused, identified as Mohammad Ilias, was detained on Thursday afternoon, 7 May, from the Rawzatul Quran Adhunik Nurani and Hafezia Madrasa in the South Gazirchat area of Ashulia. The matter was confirmed later that night by Ashulia Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Tarikul Islam.

According to police, Mohammad Ilias is the son of Abdul Halim from Kukla village under Purbatala Police Station in Mymensingh district. He had been serving as a teacher at the madrasa where the alleged incident took place. The victim is a first-grade student at the same institution.

Police said relatives of the child informed investigators that the student had been staying at her uncle’s residence while attending the madrasa. On Wednesday, 6 May, the child reportedly returned home from the institution in a distressed condition and was crying continuously. When family members questioned her, she allegedly accused the teacher of sexual harassment.

Following the allegation, the family informed both the madrasa authorities and the police. Officers from Ashulia Police Station later visited the scene and detained the accused teacher.

Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Tarikul Islam stated that police acted immediately after receiving information about the incident. He confirmed that a case had been filed by the victim’s relatives and that the arrested teacher would be produced before the court on Friday.

The investigation process is currently underway, and police have not disclosed additional details regarding the case. No statement from the madrasa authorities was included in the official account provided by police.
