A thirty-five-year-old man named Zoj Ali Biswas has been allegedly beaten to death by local residents in the Pangsha upazila of Rajbari district over suspicions of stealing a water pump. The tragic incident unfolded late Tuesday night in Dhepa Majail village, situated within Patta union.
The victim, Zoj Ali Biswas, was a resident of Majail village in the same union and the son of Shukur Ali Biswas, also known as Suray. The brutal episode has once again cast a harsh spotlight on the grave dangers of vigilante justice and mob violence within rural communities.
According to local accounts and police reports, the sequence of events began during the deep hours of the night. A group of villagers reportedly caught Zoj Ali red-handed while he was allegedly attempting to steal a domestic water motor from a residential property in Dhepa Majail. Instead of handing the suspect over to local authorities, the gathered crowd took matters into their own hands.
Eyewitnesses and initial findings indicate that the agitated mob subjected him to severe physical abuse. The ordeal did not end with the initial beating; the victim was reportedly tied up and held captive throughout the entire night. Sustained and intense physical assault left him critically injured and utterly unresponsive by morning.
Law enforcement agencies received word of the situation early Wednesday morning. A team from Pangsha Model Police Station rushed to the scene to intervene. Upon arrival, officers found Zoj Ali in a critically frail and dying state. They promptly rescued him and rushed him to the Pangsha Upazila Health Complex for urgent medical attention. However, upon examination, the duty medical officer declared him dead upon arrival.
Moinul Islam, the officer-in-charge (OC) of Pangsha Model Police Station, confirmed the occurrence of the incident. He noted that while the initial narrative points towards an alleged theft of a water pump, investigators are keeping an open mind. Police are thoroughly examining whether personal enmity, a deeper grudge, or other hidden motives played a role in the fatal assault.
Authorities have assured the public that a transparent and impartial investigation is underway. Law enforcement teams are working to identify the individuals directly involved in the lynching. Officials reiterated that strict legal actions would be taken against all perpetrators to ensure accountability and deter such unlawful acts of violence in the future.
