The body of a two-year-old boy was recovered from a water-filled ditch in Feni district, two days after he went missing and a ransom demand was made to his family. The incident occurred in the Amanullahpur area of Daganbhuiya municipality, where police recovered the remains on Monday morning (11 May).
The deceased child, Hasan, was the son of Mohammad Tarek and Tarzina Akhtar Nipu, residents of the Komolnagar upazila in Lakshmipur district. According to the family, Hasan disappeared on Saturday morning from the area in front of their residence.
Later the same day, the family received a phone call from an unknown number. The caller initially demanded BDT 12,000 and subsequently increased the demand to BDT 120,000, issuing threats that the child would be killed if the money was not paid. Following the threats, the family lodged a written complaint with Daganbhuiya Police Station on Sunday.
Police launched an investigation immediately after the complaint was filed. On Monday morning, law enforcement officers recovered the child’s body from a ditch in Amanullahpur. Officials confirmed that the body was found approximately two days after the disappearance.
Daganbhuiya Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge, Mohammad Foyzul Azim, stated that preliminary findings suggest the ransom demand may have been made by a fraudulent or organised group. Investigators have also traced the mobile phone number used for the ransom call to the Naogaon area, though further verification is ongoing.
Authorities have not yet disclosed whether any arrests have been made in connection with the case. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause and time of death.
