In a video message posted on Facebook on Monday night, 24 August, Jones alleged that he had been physically attacked in his workplace. He said calling the police was necessary to protect himself and claimed that he had subsequently informed the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) about what had happened.
“I was attacked in my workplace. I had to call the police for my own protection,” Jones said in the video. He also claimed that he sent photographs of his injuries to the BFF to report the incident, but did not receive the assistance or support he expected.
Jones said he still did not feel safe and expressed frustration at having to seek outside assistance over his security while carrying out his professional responsibilities in Bangladesh.
The incident reportedly followed an argument and physical pushing involving an assistant coach. The British coach said he had never previously experienced a physical assault in the workplace during his career. Nor, he said, had he ever needed to seek police assistance or support from the British diplomatic mission for his personal safety while working.
