During the funeral, Shahadat Hossain, the Mayor of Chittagong City Corporation and a leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), expressed condolences on behalf of his party’s leadership. He acknowledged Hossain’s extensive contributions to the infrastructure and development of the Greater Chittagong region, stating that his work would be long remembered by the residents of the city.

Legal and Health Background
The latter years of the former minister’s life were marked by legal challenges and deteriorating health. On 27 October 2024, he was arrested by the Detective Branch in Dhaka in connection with a 2022 case involving an attack on the BNP office and the death of an activist. While in custody, he fell ill and was admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital on 5 February 2025.
He was released on bail from all cases on 14 August 2025. Since his release, he had been suffering from various ailments, including severe respiratory complications, necessitating prolonged hospitalisation until his death.
Final Rites
Following the prayer, a special supplication was offered for the deceased. His eldest son, Sabedur Rahman, requested the congregation for prayers and forgiveness on behalf of his father. The body was subsequently transported to his ancestral home in Mirsarai for burial. Amidst the solemn atmosphere, some attendees were heard chanting the slogan “Joy Bangla” as the funeral concluded.
