Convicted Fugitive Arrested in Teknaf

In Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar, a convicted and long-term fugitive in a drug-related case has been arrested following a special operation conducted by the Rapid Action Battalion-15. The arrested individual has been identified as Mohammad Ismail (25), son of Mohammad Rafiq, a resident of North Chowdhury Para under Teknaf Model Police Station in Cox’s Bazar district.

According to a statement from Assistant Director A M Faruk of Rapid Action Battalion-15, the accused had been convicted in a drug case filed under Akbar Shah Police Station of Chattogram Metropolitan Police. The court sentenced Mohammad Ismail to one year of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of five hundred taka. The judgement further stipulated that in default of payment of the fine, he would be required to serve an additional fifteen days of simple imprisonment.

RAB sources confirmed that following the pronouncement of the court verdict, Mohammad Ismail went into hiding and remained absconding for a prolonged period. Acting on confidential information, a team of Rapid Action Battalion-15 conducted a targeted operation at around 11:00 a.m. on Thursday in the North Chowdhury Para area of Ward No. 7 under Teknaf Municipality. During the operation, the accused was apprehended from his own locality without incident.

Following his arrest, he was handed over to Teknaf Model Police Station in accordance with legal procedures. Authorities have stated that further legal steps will be taken by the concerned police station to produce the accused before the court for subsequent proceedings.

Officials from the Rapid Action Battalion-15 also reiterated that such operations form part of their routine activities aimed at tracing and apprehending convicted individuals and fugitives across the country. In particular, operations relating to drug-related offences are carried out based on intelligence inputs, with the objective of ensuring that convicted offenders are brought under the jurisdiction of the judicial system through due legal process.

The arrest has been described as part of ongoing enforcement efforts targeting absconding individuals involved in narcotics-related cases, ensuring compliance with court orders and maintaining the rule of law.
