A 21-year-old youth, identified as Mohammad Hridoy, sustained severe injuries after being intercepted and attacked by muggers in the capital’s Adabor area. The incident occurred on Friday night, 15 May, in the Shyamoli Housing riverbank area. Mr Hridoy, who is employed as a cleaning activist for the City Corporation, was targeted for his personal belongings.

Details of the Incident
According to witnesses and colleagues, the victim was walking through the Shyamoli Housing area when he was surrounded by a group of individuals. The assailants have been identified by locals and colleagues as Killar Abu Sayeed, Maura Sohel, Shahin, and Amir.
The attackers reportedly blocked Hridoy’s path and proceeded to assault him with sharp weapons. He sustained significant stab wounds to his head and his left shoulder. During the confrontation, the muggers forcibly took 20,000 BDT in cash and two mobile handsets before fleeing the scene.
Medical Response and Hospitalisation
Following the attack, Hridoy’s colleagues were alerted to the situation. He was initially rescued and rushed to the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR), commonly known as the Pangu Hospital. However, due to the severity of his injuries and the need for advanced care, he was transferred to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) later that night.
The victim is currently undergoing treatment at DMCH. Medical staff have confirmed that while his injuries are serious, he is receiving the necessary clinical attention.
Official Statements and Police Action
The In-charge of the DMCH Police Outpost, Inspector Md. Faruk, confirmed the details of the admission. He stated that the Adabor Police Station has been formally notified of the crime.
“The youth is currently under medical observation. We have informed the relevant police station regarding the identity of the suspects mentioned by the victim’s associates. A police operation is currently underway to apprehend the perpetrators,” Inspector Faruk noted.
