Juvenile Arrested Over Sexual Assault Of Young Girl

A 17-year-old youth has been arrested by law enforcement officials in the Demra area of the capital city, Dhaka, following allegations of sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl. The underage suspect was formally presented before a judicial court on Wednesday, 20 May. Upon reviewing the initial case documents and the age status of the accused, the presiding judge issued a formal directive ordering the teenager to be transferred immediately to a juvenile correctional facility (correctional centre).

The police operations leading to the arrest were executed late on Tuesday night in the Bansherpul Aminbagh locality of Demra. According to police records, the young suspect resided in a rented residential apartment within that specific neighbourhood along with his immediate family members. Following the formal filing of a criminal complaint by the victim’s mother on Tuesday night, police tracking units moved swiftly to secure the suspect from the area.

Investigation Details Tactical Separation of Young Siblings

The structural details of the criminal incident were outlined by the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Demra Police Station, Mirza Taifur Rahman. According to the police investigation, the suspect and the victim’s family shared a prior acquaintance, which meant that the young girl and her brother routinely visited the rented room of the accused teenager. The investigating officer noted that this established familiarity was actively exploited by the suspect to orchestrate the assault on the night of 18 May, at approximately 10:30 pm.

“The suspect enticed the young female victim and her brother into his residential quarters under the false pretext of offering them fresh lychee fruits to eat. Once the two children were inside his apartment, the teenager strategically separated the siblings. He placed the brother in an adjacent room, providing him with various toys to keep him occupied and distracted. With the brother isolated, the suspect then moved the six-year-old girl into a separate closed room where the sexual assault was committed.”

The deceptive arrangement was disrupted when the young girl began crying intensely due to physical distress. Hearing the sudden screams of his sister, the brother abandoned his toys and entered the closed room, where he discovered the suspect in a highly compromising position with the victim. The combined crying of the two young siblings quickly alerted their mother, who arrived at the scene, secured her daughter from the apartment, and subsequently recorded the full details of the assault directly from her children.

Local Civil Unrest Prompted Quick Police Intervention

The day following the assault, during the afternoon of 19 May, local residents and neighbours spotted the accused teenager moving openly through the Aminbagh locality. An agitated crowd of local citizens quickly gathered, intercepted the youth, and subjected him to physical violence. Upon receiving urgent notifications regarding the civil unrest and the detention of the suspect, a team of police officers from the Demra Police Station rushed to the specified location.

The arriving police units successfully extracted the injured teenager from the hands of the crowd, preventing further physical harm. Law enforcement officials then transported the suspect to a local healthcare facility where he received essential first aid treatment for the minor injuries sustained during the public altercation. Following this medical clearance, the youth was taken into formal police custody under criminal charges.

Simultaneously, recognizing the severe medical condition of the six-year-old victim, the Demra police units coordinated her emergency transport to the One-Stop Crisis Centre (OCC) located inside the Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Specialized medical professionals at the centre are currently providing comprehensive clinical care, psychological counselling, and forensic evaluations for the young victim as part of the ongoing statutory investigation.
