Housewife’s Death Under Investigation

A 30-year-old housewife was found dead at her home in North Ramshala village under Sonamukhi Union of Akkelpur Upazila in Joypurhat on Monday morning, prompting a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.

The deceased, identified as Sharmin, was the wife of local farmer Shamim. She was originally from Mongalpur village in Adamdighi Upazila of Bogura District and was the daughter of Anwar Hossain. Her death has caused considerable sadness among relatives and residents of the local community, while police continue to examine the events leading up to the incident.

According to information gathered from family members, local residents and law enforcement officials, a disagreement reportedly took place between the couple on Sunday night after Shamim returned home later than expected. The dispute was said to have centred on his late arrival. Following the argument, the husband and wife reportedly remained in separate rooms for the night.

Shamim told investigators that he had been playing carrom and returned home later than usual. He stated that his wife became upset about the delay, leading to a verbal altercation. According to his account, he subsequently went to sleep and discovered his wife hanging inside the family kitchen when he woke up the following morning.

After hearing his cries for help, neighbours rushed to the property. Local residents reportedly brought Sharmin down before informing police. Officers from Akkelpur Police Station arrived at the scene shortly afterwards and recovered the body. As part of standard legal procedures, arrangements were made to send the body for a post-mortem examination.

Former Union Parishad chairman Solaiman Ali Sardar said that, based on available information, the incident appeared to have followed a temporary domestic dispute. He added that there had been no widely known history of prolonged conflict or significant family problems involving the couple.

Akkelpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shahin Reza said police responded immediately after receiving the report. During the initial examination, investigators did not observe any obvious external injury marks on the body. However, he emphasised that a definitive conclusion regarding the cause of death could not be reached solely through a visual inspection.

Police officials noted that the post-mortem report will play a crucial role in determining the exact cause and manner of death. Investigators are also collecting statements from relevant individuals and examining the surrounding circumstances to ensure that all aspects of the case are properly reviewed.
