Life-Term Convict Arrested in Narayanganj

A convicted fugitive serving a life sentence in a murder case has been arrested by the elite force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-11) from the Siddhirganj area of Narayanganj.

According to officials, the arrest took place at around 10:30 pm on Thursday during a targeted operation conducted in the Jalkuri locality of Siddhirganj. The information was later confirmed on Friday morning through a press briefing by the operational officer of RAB-11, Captain Rawnak Irfan Khan.

The arrested individual has been identified as Ilias Hossain, also known as Joy, aged 27. He is the son of the late Harun Miah from Goknagar village under Raipura Upazila. Law enforcement officials also noted that he had previously resided in the Nayamati area of Fatullah.

Authorities confirmed that Ilias Hossain was a convicted fugitive in a murder case filed in 2019 at Fatullah Police Station. Following a full trial, a court in Narayanganj found him guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment with rigorous punishment. Since the verdict, he had remained in hiding and frequently changed locations to avoid arrest.

RAB officials stated that intelligence surveillance and covert monitoring had been ongoing for an extended period to track his movements. After confirming his presence in Jalkuri, a specialised team was deployed, resulting in his arrest without incident.

Captain Rawnak Irfan Khan said that the operation was conducted as part of continuous efforts to apprehend long-term absconding convicts and ensure they are brought to justice. He added that sustained intelligence gathering eventually led to pinpointing the suspect’s exact location.

Following the arrest, the convicted individual was handed over to Fatullah Police Station for further legal proceedings.
