Police Attacked Over Motorcycle Recovery

A violent incident erupted in Keshabpur following the recovery of a stolen motorcycle, after a group of individuals allegedly assaulted police officers and forcibly seized the vehicle from custody. The episode has heightened tensions in the locality, prompting intensified security measures and a formal investigation.

According to local sources and law enforcement officials, the incident began in the early hours of Friday when a motorcycle belonging to Ashrafuzzaman Rumi of Hasanpur village was reported stolen from his residence. Rumi is reportedly associated with a local political organisation. Upon receiving the complaint, Assistant Sub-Inspector Nazrul Islam of the Chingra Police Outpost initiated an immediate investigation. Using a combination of intelligence inputs and technical tracking, officers were able to locate the missing vehicle.

Acting on this information, police conducted a raid at the residence of Abdur Rashid in Chingra village, where the stolen motorcycle was successfully recovered. However, the situation deteriorated rapidly before formal handover procedures could be completed.

Around 8:30 a.m., Ashrafuzzaman Rumi arrived at the scene accompanied by approximately 40 to 50 individuals. They demanded immediate release of the motorcycle without completion of legal verification and documentation. Police officers on duty explained that standard procedures required proper identification and administrative clearance before any handover could be made.

Tension escalated into a confrontation when the assembled group allegedly turned hostile. Assistant Sub-Inspector Nazrul Islam was reportedly assaulted during the altercation, and the motorcycle was forcibly taken away from police control. He sustained injuries in the incident.

In response, a police operation led by the Officer-in-Charge of Keshabpur Police Station, Rokshana Khatun, was launched to restore order. The motorcycle was subsequently recovered once again, and Abdur Rashid was arrested on suspicion of involvement in the theft case.

Authorities have confirmed that a detailed investigation is underway to identify others involved in the attack on law enforcement personnel. Digital evidence and on-the-ground intelligence are being reviewed to track down additional suspects. Police have stated that further arrests are likely.

Assistant Sub-Inspector Nazrul Islam said he was preparing to transport the recovered motorcycle to the police station when he was suddenly attacked by a group of individuals, leaving him physically assaulted and unable to complete the process safely.

Officer-in-Charge Rokshana Khatun confirmed that the situation has since been brought under control. She added that additional police deployment has been maintained in the area to prevent further unrest and ensure public safety. Authorities have also warned that strict legal action will be taken against those responsible for attacking police officers and obstructing official duties.
