After a hiatus of around a year and a half, one of Bangladesh’s most recognised rock bands, Orthohin, is set to make a much-anticipated return to the live stage. The band will perform on 10 July at the “Overload Festival”, to be held at the Hall of Fame of the Bangladesh–China Friendship Conference Centre in the capital’s Agargaon area.
The comeback performance will mark a significant moment for fans of the group, fronted by vocalist and bassist “Bassbaba” Sumon. Known for shaping a distinct sound within the country’s rock landscape, Orthohin’s return is expected to draw considerable attention from long-time followers as well as younger audiences discovering their music in recent years.
The Overload Festival, managed by Live Wave Entertainment, is being positioned as a large-scale celebration of Bangladesh’s contemporary rock scene. Alongside Orthohin, the line-up brings together several influential and widely followed bands, including Artcell, Black, Cryptic Fate, Nemesis, Powersurge, Level Five and Rocksalt. The event is scheduled to begin at 2 pm and is expected to continue until 11 pm, offering a full-day programme of live performances.
Ticket sales for the festival began on 25 June through the online platform “Get Set Rock”, with organisers anticipating strong demand given the scale of the line-up and the return of multiple prominent acts.
Orthohin’s return to the stage comes alongside notable changes within its internal structure. In March, the band confirmed the departure of long-standing drummer Mark Don and guitarist Ehtesham Ali Moin, marking a period of transition for the group. Following these exits, the band has undergone a partial restructuring of its line-up.
Musician Shishir Ahmed has rejoined Orthohin, taking on responsibilities for guitar and keyboard, adding both familiarity and renewed depth to the ensemble. Joining him as a new member is Adnan Atik, who will also handle keyboard and guitar duties, contributing to the band’s refreshed musical direction. For the upcoming performance, guest drummer Sheikh M Riaz of the band Mechanics will take charge of percussion.
This reconfigured line-up will be presented live for the first time at the Overload Festival, making the performance not only a comeback after a prolonged absence but also a debut showcase of the band’s new formation. Fans are already expressing heightened anticipation, as Orthohin prepares to reconnect with the stage and its audience in a newly evolved form.
