From the 2027 academic year, admission tests will no longer be held for students seeking entry into Class One, with the admission process to be conducted through a lottery system, the Ministry of Education has announced.
The decision was revealed in a press release issued by the ministry on Thursday, 6 August. According to the statement, the new policy aims to simplify the admission process for young learners and ensure that children entering the first year of primary education are selected through a fair and transparent method.
Under the revised arrangement, Class One admission will be handled through a lottery rather than a competitive examination. However, the ministry clarified that admission tests will continue for all other classes in both primary and secondary schools, except for the first grade.
The move marks a change in the way initial school admissions are managed, as first-year students will no longer have to participate in examinations before beginning formal schooling. The lottery-based system is expected to reduce pressure on young children and their families during the early stages of education.
The education ministry’s announcement comes at a time when admission procedures and examination results remain key concerns for students, parents and educational institutions across the country.
Meanwhile, the ministry has also confirmed that the results of this year’s Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations will be published on 10 August.
The announcement was made through the same ministry statement signed by Senior Information Officer Abdullah Shibli Sadiq. The release did not provide further details regarding the exact time of publication or the procedures for students to access their results.
The SSC and equivalent examinations are among the most significant public examinations in Bangladesh, with thousands of students from general education boards, madrasah and technical education streams awaiting their results each year. The outcome plays an important role in determining students’ progression to higher secondary education.
