A non-governmental organisation (NGO) worker named Mizanur Rahman, 35, was killed after being crushed by a speeding truck on the Harirampur–Balra road in Pipulia area of Manikganj on Thursday (6 August).
The tragic accident took place in the afternoon, leaving the victim dead at the scene. Harirampur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Mumin Khan confirmed the incident.
Mizanur Rahman was the son of Abdul Rahman from Tepra village in Shibaloy upazila of Manikganj. He was employed by the private development organisation Gana Kalyan Trust.
According to local residents, Mizanur was returning home on his motorcycle after completing his official duties when the accident occurred. He had been working in the Dohar–Nawabganj area of Dhaka district and was travelling back to his home after finishing his responsibilities for the day.
When he reached the Pipulia area on the Harirampur–Balra road, a truck coming from the opposite direction struck his motorcycle. The impact left him critically injured. Local people rushed to the spot and attempted to rescue him, but he died from his injuries at the scene.
Police were informed shortly after the accident and a team from Harirampur Police Station arrived at the location. Officers recovered the body and began the necessary legal procedures. The authorities are also looking into the circumstances surrounding the crash and efforts are underway to identify the truck involved.
The accident caused concern among local residents, who said that reckless driving and excessive speed by heavy vehicles often create risks on the road. They called for stronger enforcement of traffic rules and greater caution from drivers to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Mizanur Rahman’s sudden death has cast a shadow of grief over his family, colleagues and the local community. His colleagues at the development organisation expressed deep sorrow over the loss of a dedicated employee who died while returning home after completing his professional duties.
