The detained individuals have been identified as 22-year-old Delwar Hossain, who served as the president of the Baruajani Shaheed Muktijoddha College unit of Chhatra Dal, and 23-year-old Sadek Ali, the organisation’s unit organising secretary. Delwar is a resident of Sohagpur village, while Sadek hails from Kakarkandi village within the same upazila.

According to local accounts and police reports, the dramatic episode unfolded at approximately 3:00 AM near the Handle intersection in Bishgiripara. Suspecting suspicious movements and clandestine drug trafficking activities, a group of vigilant local residents intercepted the two student leaders as they travelled through the area. Upon confronting them and conducting a search, locals reportedly recovered fourteen pieces of methamphetamine-based Yaba tablets in their possession.

Tensions flared quickly following the discovery of the narcotics. A crowd gathered at the scene, and in a display of public anger, the two political activists were detained inside a nearby room. Eyewitnesses reported that the angry mob subjected the pair to physical beatings with wooden sticks before contacting the local police station to report the matter.

Upon receiving emergency calls from the neighbourhood, a patrol team from the Nalitabari Police Station rushed to the scene to secure the area and rescue the battered suspects from further escalation. Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ashrafuzzaman formally confirmed the arrest to reporters, stating that the locals handed over the two accused individuals alongside the recovered Yaba tablets. Following their custody, police filed a formal criminal case under narcotics control laws against both Delwar Hossain and Sadek Ali, before forwarding them through court proceedings to ensure legal accountability.
