The government has appointed new Deputy Commissioners (DCs) to Natore, Gaibandha, and Rangpur districts as part of a fresh administrative reshuffle within the field administration. The Ministry of Public Administration issued an official circular detailing the new postings on Wednesday night.
Senior Appointments and Officer Profiles
According to the official administrative order, Sumoni Akter, a Deputy Secretary currently attached to the Posts and Telecommunications Division, has been assigned as the new Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate for Natore.
In the same administrative notice, Dr Md Moniruzzaman, who has been serving as Private Secretary (PS) to the Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives, has been transferred to assume executive charge of Gaibandha district.
Additionally, Israt Jahan, a Deputy Secretary serving under the Ministry of Home Affairs, has been posted as the new Deputy Commissioner of Rangpur.
Operational Role and Field Governance
In the administrative architecture of Bangladesh, the Deputy Commissioner serves as the principal executive authority and central coordination pivot at the district level. Operating under the administrative oversight of the Cabinet Division and the Ministry of Public Administration, DCs represent central government authority across field territories. Their primary responsibilities encompass general administration, state revenue collection, public land management, and maintaining law and order in their executive capacity as District Magistrates.
Beyond executive governance, Deputy Commissioners coordinate inter-departmental operations among nation-building ministries, supervise regional public works infrastructure, and direct emergency relief and management initiatives during natural disasters. The appointment of mid-level administrative cadres—typically selected from the Deputy Secretary rank of the Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) Administration cadre—aims to strengthen field management, accelerate civil service delivery, and maintain public order across rural and urban administrative jurisdictions.
The newly designated officers are set to formally take over their administrative duties in Natore, Gaibandha, and Rangpur following standard handover procedures at their respective District Commissioner offices.
