A legal application has been filed in a Dhaka court against 11 individuals, including the director of the National Heart Institute and Hospital, over allegations of medical negligence, patient exploitation by a broker syndicate, and subsequent death of a patient.
On Thursday (14 May), the application was submitted before the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Ismail by Abu Huraira, son of the deceased Jinnat Ali. The complainant alleges that systemic misconduct and delays in treatment across multiple facilities ultimately contributed to his father’s death.
According to the petition, Jinnat Ali fell suddenly ill and was initially taken to Manikganj General Hospital before being referred to the National Heart Institute and Hospital in Dhaka. He was admitted to the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) on 26 February. The complaint states that shortly after admission, he was assessed in the emergency department and misleading information was allegedly provided regarding his condition.
The plaintiff further alleges that a group of ward attendants and intermediaries redirected the patient to a private facility, claiming better ICU availability and lower costs. Following this, he was transferred to a private hospital where various payments were collected for tests, admission procedures, and medication. The complainant claims that repeated demands for additional payments and restricted access to treatment followed, culminating in a total bill of approximately BDT 27,000. He further alleges that he was physically assaulted and detained when attempting to discharge his father.
After the patient was brought back and re-admitted to the National Heart Institute and Hospital, Jinnat Ali died on 26 February afternoon.
The application also alleges subsequent intimidation, including threats and attempts to implicate the complainant in false cases when he later returned to raise formal complaints.
The court recorded the complainant’s statement and has kept its order pending, according to the plaintiff’s lawyer Moksedul Hasan Mondal.

Authorities at the police station allegedly advised the complainant to pursue the matter through the court, leading to the present legal application.
