Tejgaon and Paltan Police Chiefs Withdrawn in Dhaka Reshuffle

Dhaka Metropolitan Police has withdrawn the officers in charge of two major capital police stations, Tejgaon and Paltan Model, citing administrative grounds in a fresh operational reshuffle.

The official directive was issued on Saturday under an administrative order signed by Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed. In accordance with the notification, both station chiefs have been relieved of their command responsibilities at the precinct level and attached directly to Police Headquarters and the central administration division.

The reassigned officers are Inspector (Unarmed) Kya Shwe Nu of Tejgaon Police Station and Inspector (Unarmed) Mohammad Mostafa Kamal Khan of Paltan Model Police Station. The department confirmed that the transfer orders and subsequent administrative attachments took effect immediately on 22 August 2026.

Both precincts occupy highly sensitive positions within Dhaka’s metropolitan policing grid. Paltan Model Police Station oversees an area that encompasses key commercial avenues, financial institutions, transport hubs, and the central gathering grounds frequently used for major political rallies and public demonstrations. Ensuring civic order in this zone requires constant crowd management, heightened surveillance, and swift operational coordination.

Tejgaon presents an equally demanding jurisdiction, covering dense industrial zones, corporate headquarters, major arterial roads connecting northern and southern Dhaka, and prominent government establishments. Managing the intense flow of vehicular traffic alongside routine neighbourhood security demands robust leadership and meticulous ground supervision from precinct commanders.

Command-level transfers and administrative attachments are standard institutional procedures within the Bangladesh Police framework. Departmental leadership routinely initiates such personnel shifts to reinforce internal discipline, prevent operational stagnation, enhance frontline accountability, and adapt to evolving public safety demands across the metropolitan area.

While the official notification categorised the step under broad administrative reasons, such adjustments often pave the way for realigning field management with broader institutional goals. Reassigning field officers to central headquarters allows the top brass to review station administration while maintaining operational equilibrium across the force.

The metropolitan police authorities have already set the succession process in motion. Acting officers or newly assigned permanent inspectors in charge will take command of both stations without delay, ensuring that day-to-day policing, routine neighborhood patrols, pending criminal investigations, and community outreach programmes proceed without disruption. Maintaining seamless public service and steady law enforcement presence remains the immediate priority across both crucial sectors.
