Members of the central committee of the Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (Jasad) gathered on Saturday afternoon for a solemn discussion and memorial meeting to observe National Mourning Day, paying tribute to the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, on the anniversary of his assassination in 15 August 1975.
The memorial service commenced at 5:30 PM on 15 August 2026 at the Shaheed Colonel Taher Auditorium, situated inside the party’s central headquarters at 35–36 Bangabandhu Avenue in Dhaka. Party leaders and activists offered floral tributes at the portrait of Bangabandhu before observing a minute of silence in honour of the martyrs of the 1975 tragedy.
Chaired by Jasad Vice-President and veteran freedom fighter Shafiuadin Molla, the discussion featured speeches from a broad cross-section of party leadership. Speakers included central committee member and freedom fighter Saifuzzaman Badsha, Joint General Secretary Abdullahel Kaief, central committee member Sardar Humayun Kabir, National Youth Alliance President Shariful Kabir Swapan, Office Secretary Sazzad Hossain, Cultural Secretary Shaheed Alamgir, Assistant Secretary Ali Hasan Tarun, and former Dhaka City East Joint General Secretary Wahiduzzaman Khan Ripon. Student leadership was represented by Chhatra League (Scientific Socialism) Central Committee Vice-President Golam Kibria and Organisational Secretary Hasan Aziz Joni.
Addressing the assembled members, party figures characterized the 15 August 1975 assassination of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most of his family as one of the darkest and most tragic chapters in global political history. They drew explicit parallels between the 1975 assassination and the political regime change that unfolded on 5 August 2024, asserting that both events stemmed from the same underlying forces opposed to the sovereignty of Bangladesh.
Speakers argued that the anti-liberation elements responsible for the 1975 tragedy orchestrated the mid-2024 political shift through a meticulously planned operation under the cover of the quota reform movement. To support their claims, party leaders pointed to the demolition of the historic Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi 32 and the widespread destruction of Bangabandhu murals and statues across the country on 5 August 2024, viewing those acts as evidence of a calculated effort to erase the legacy of the 1971 Liberation War.
The discussion also highlighted what party members described as ongoing political victimisation targeting key figures. Speakers noted that the recent 30-year sentence handed down to Jasad President Hasanul Haq Inu by the International Crimes Tribunal following the post-5 August political transition parallels his previous sentencing under the military tribunal of Ziaur Rahman.
Concluding the session, Jasad leadership issued a call to action to the nation. They declared that the primary national duty of all rational, patriotic, and truth-seeking forces in Bangladesh is to unite to safeguard the country against religious extremism, militant ideology, and political deception.
