The raid commenced at approximately 2:00 PM on Monday at an enterprise trading under the style of Messrs Islam Traders, located within Jhilim Union of Chapainawabganj Sadar Upazila. Acting upon actionable intelligence detailing systematic overcharging and hidden stockpiles, an enforcement team led by the local executive magistrate mounted a surprise inspection on the commercial establishment.
Upon searching the storage facility, officers discovered substantial unrecorded inventory held behind closed doors. The inspection team seized a combined total of 410 commercial sacks of essential soil nutrients, comprising 259 sacks of urea, 106 sacks of diammonium phosphate (DAP), and 45 sacks of triple superphosphate (TSP). Under current national agricultural guidelines, licensed chemical fertiliser dealers are legally bound to distribute subsidised commodities strictly at government-mandated price caps while keeping accurate, auditable registers of daily sales and stock balances.
Confronted with the discrepancies, the proprietor, Noor Islam, was found guilty of violating fair-pricing directives and holding unauthorised reserves. The presiding magistrate promptly levied a spot fine of 100,000 Taka, which was recovered on the spot.
To prevent local supply disruptions and ensure neighbouring growers received necessary inputs without delay, the tribunal directed that the confiscated fertiliser should not be impounded into administrative storage. Instead, officials arranged for all 410 sacks to be sold directly to local farmers gathered at the premises at the official government-prescribed rates. The revenue generated from the immediate public distribution was handed over to the shop proprietor following the recovery of the penalty.
The enforcement drive was spearheaded by the Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Chapainawabganj Sadar, supported by technical personnel from the Upazila Agriculture Extension Office and an operational team from the Chapainawabganj Sadar Police Station. Confirming the disciplinary measures, Jhilim Union Sub-Assistant Agriculture Officer Md Ziaur Rahman stated that local agricultural teams and law enforcement agencies will maintain continuous surveillance across regional markets to deter unscrupulous traders from exploiting growers through artificial price inflation.
