Notorious Fugitive Convict Arrested with Firearms in Rupsganj

Law enforcement agencies in Narayanganj have successfully apprehended a high-profile criminal and life-term convict alongside his associate during coordinated overnight raids. The operation, which targeted multiple locations across the outskirts of Dhaka and Narayanganj, also led to the recovery of a foreign-made pistol and seven rounds of live ammunition from the suspects’ possession.
The primary suspect, identified locally as Kalai Sabuj, has long been a source of terror for residents in Rupsganj and surrounding localities. Operating as a fugitive while evading a life sentence handed down in a high-profile murder case, Sabuj managed to orchestrate criminal enterprises from the shadows. Investigators confirmed that he routinely slipped back into the region to execute illicit operations before disappearing into various hideouts to escape accountability.
Police intelligence units tracked the movements of the suspects following a tip-off. On Wednesday night, a specialized team from Rupsganj Police Station launched a sudden raid in the Konapara area of Demra, situated on the capital’s fringe. Caught off guard by the swift police response, Sabuj was cornered and arrested on the spot. A subsequent search of his belongings yielded the illegal firearm and ammunition.
Building upon tactical information extracted during initial interrogations, the police team expanded their operation. Later that same night, officers raided the Rupsshi area within Rupsganj, apprehending Sabuj’s close associate, Ejazul Haque. Police records indicate that Haque, a resident of Bhulta Mazhipara, is also implicated in multiple criminal charges filed at the local police station.
According to Rupsganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge AHMM Salahuddin, Kalai Sabuj’s rap sheet includes twenty-six separate criminal cases, among which are seven distinct murder charges. His long-standing involvement in extortion, kidnapping, armed robbery, and targeted killings made him one of the most wanted fugitives in the district. Following their arrest, both suspects were transferred to Narayanganj court under heavy police escort on Thursday morning, marking a significant breakthrough in local crime suppression efforts.
