Bangladesh are set for a busy October in the United Arab Emirates, with a Test against Afghanistan followed by a three-team one-day international competition involving Zimbabwe. The Afghanistan Cricket Board officially announced the full schedule for both competitions on Tuesday, 8 September.
Bangladesh will begin the UAE assignment with a one-off Test against Afghanistan on 9 October. The match will provide the side with an opportunity to assess its Test capabilities against an Afghanistan team that has established itself as an increasingly competitive force in international cricket.
The Test will also serve as the opening phase of a wider tour that quickly shifts towards limited-overs cricket. Bangladesh will have only a short period to adjust before entering the tri-series featuring Afghanistan and Zimbabwe.
Bangladesh’s first ODI of the competition is scheduled for 17 October, when they will take on Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe and Afghanistan will meet two days later on 19 October, before Bangladesh return to action against Afghanistan on 21 October.
The league phase will be followed by the final on 23 October. The two teams finishing in the strongest positions during the league stage will contest the title.
For Bangladesh, the schedule presents two different challenges within the same tour. The Test will demand patience, discipline and the ability to build long innings, while the ODI matches will require quicker decision-making and greater adaptability as the match situation changes.
Conditions in the UAE could also test the visitors. Adjusting to the playing environment, managing batting partnerships and making effective use of the bowling attack will be key aspects of Bangladesh’s preparations. The transition between formats will be another consideration, particularly with just eight days separating the start of the Test and Bangladesh’s opening ODI.
The UAE tour will not mark the end of Bangladesh’s international commitments in October. After completing the tri-series, the team are scheduled to return home before facing the West Indies in a two-Test series. The packed calendar therefore gives Bangladesh several opportunities to test their squad across both Test and limited-overs cricket.

The final will depend on the standings from the league stage, meaning Bangladesh will need consistent performances in their two scheduled group matches to remain in contention for the title.
The combination of a Test and a three-team ODI competition makes the UAE assignment an important part of Bangladesh’s international schedule. The team will have to switch rapidly between the demands of red-ball and white-ball cricket, while also managing the workload of players ahead of the subsequent Test series against the West Indies.
With the schedule now confirmed, Bangladesh’s October campaign will begin with a Test against Afghanistan before moving into a short, competitive ODI tournament against two familiar international opponents.
