Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has been deployed in Dhaka and three other districts to maintain overall security and keep the law and order situation stable. Along with the capital, the force is carrying out additional precautionary duties in Gopalganj, Faridpur and Madaripur.
In a press release issued on Sunday (16 November) afternoon, BGB’s Public Relations Officer Md Shariful Islam confirmed the matter.
He stated that BGB patrol teams are on the ground in coordination with other law enforcement agencies to keep the situation normal. All necessary preparations have also been taken.
According to a BGB source, the action has been taken centring the programmes of the Awami League, an organisation whose activities have been prohibited.
For the past week, miscreants have been detonating crude bombs in several areas of Dhaka. Incidents of buses being set on fire on various highways and different parts of the capital have also occurred. In such a situation, BGB, along with other law enforcement agencies, is working on the ground to stabilise the law and order situation.
The scheduled date for the verdict in a case filed against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina over alleged crimes against humanity committed during the July mass uprising was 13 November. On that day, the Awami League, whose activities are prohibited, announced a ‘lockdown’ programme. Following this, from the night of 7 November, crude bomb explosions and arson attacks on buses began in various parts of the capital and elsewhere.
The International Crimes Tribunal-1 has set Monday (17 November) for delivering the verdict in this case. The Awami League has been discussing fresh programmes online centring the verdict. Meanwhile, crude bomb explosions and bus arson incidents continue in Dhaka and other areas.
