4,000 Yaba Tablets Discovered in Export Cargo at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport

The Aviation Security (AvSec) division at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport has successfully intercepted a shipment of illegal drugs, highlighting the vigilance of airport security personnel. The division, which comprises staff from the Civil Aviation Authority, the Bangladesh Air Force, Bangladesh Police, and Ansar, is tasked with maintaining security across the airport while assisting passengers.

On 3 December 2025, at approximately 0905 hours, AvSec officers on duty at Hangar Gate-8 were inspecting export cargo when they discovered 4,000 orange-coloured tablets of the commercial drug “Yaba” concealed within goods booked for postal dispatch. Investigations revealed that the shipment was intended for Paris, France.

Upon detecting the illicit consignment, AvSec promptly alerted the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC), which dispatched officers to the site and initiated the necessary legal proceedings. Officials noted that the swift action prevented the drugs from leaving the country, averting a potential international drug trafficking incident.

The airport authority praised the alertness, dedication, and precision of the AvSec personnel, crediting them for the successful interception. “This achievement reflects the effectiveness of our security protocols and reinforces the integrity of the airport’s overall safety measures,” a statement from the authority said.

This incident underscores the importance of multi-agency cooperation in combating drug trafficking. AvSec’s continuous monitoring of cargo, combined with meticulous screening procedures, remains a critical line of defence against smuggling attempts at one of Bangladesh’s busiest airports.

Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining high standards of security, vigilance, and accountability, emphasising that any attempt to bypass the system will be met with swift and stringent measures. The successful seizure also serves as a deterrent to potential traffickers seeking to exploit air cargo channels for illegal activities.
