BNP Worker Shot Dead by Armed Assailants in Kushtia

In a shocking incident in Daulatpur, Kushtia, a local Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) worker, Md Rafik, also known as Rafi (55), was killed after unidentified assailants opened fire on him, while two others sustained injuries.

The attack occurred at approximately 6:45 pm on Thursday, 4 December, in the busy local market of Pachabhita village under Piarpur Union. Rafik, the son of the late Motaly, was reportedly seated inside a shop when several gunmen, arriving on a motorcycle, suddenly opened fire. He was struck in the chest and died instantly at the scene. Two bystanders, Robjel Farazi and Yusuf, were injured in the crossfire and subsequently received initial medical treatment.

Eyewitnesses described scenes of panic as residents fled the area after hearing gunshots. Local law enforcement arrived promptly to secure the scene and restore order. Extra police personnel have been deployed in the area to prevent further incidents, although no formal case has yet been lodged.

Police have not yet established a clear motive for the attack. Preliminary assessments suggest the killing may be linked to prior disputes or hostility, though investigations are ongoing.

Md Solaiman Sheikh, Officer-in-Charge of Daulatpur Police Station, confirmed that Rafik’s body had been recovered and an official inquest completed. He added that authorities are actively working to identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
