Tanzia Anjum Sohania, a former Lux beauty pageant contestant, has been appointed as the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Kishoreganj, Nilphamari. Prior to this new role, she served as Deputy Director (Senior Assistant Secretary) in the Coordination and Parliamentary Division of the Bangladesh Food Safety Authority.
Sohania first gained public attention in 2010 as a contestant in the Channel i Lux Superstar competition, where she ranked among the top ten and won the Closeup Miss Beautiful Smile title. While she briefly explored a career in showbiz, she ultimately prioritised her academic and professional pursuits.
A graduate of Dhaka University in Political Science, Sohania joined the 37th BCS Administration Cadre. Her cadre appointment was officially recommended in a government notification dated 20 March 2019. Her posting to Kishoreganj comes as part of a larger government initiative, appointing new UNOs to 77 upazilas in the second phase ahead of the 13th national parliamentary elections. Three of Nilphamari’s six upazilas, including Kishoreganj, experienced transfers during this phase. Sohania is expected to assume her duties on 4 December.
Born to Dr Azizul Haq Khan, a government officer, and homemaker Salma Sultana, Sohania has demonstrated remarkable talent and dedication from an early age. She earned a talent pool scholarship in grade five and has been active in cultural activities throughout her life. Her achievements include national awards for singing and solo acting, a runner-up finish in the National KAB Scout competition, and accolades in dance performances.
Sohania completed her SSC in science with a GPA-5 from Bindubasini Government Girls’ School, Tangail, and her HSC in science with a GPA-5 from Kumudini Government College. Her academic and extracurricular excellence has been complemented by her professional career, which now continues as she takes on leadership responsibilities as UNO of Kishoreganj.
