Miguel has returned to the music scene after nearly eight years with Caos, his first full-length album in almost a decade. Yet, while fans may expect a flood of new music, the singer has revealed that another album is already completed—only its release is being held back by RCA Records.
In a frank interview with Genius, Miguel expressed his frustration over the delay. He made it clear that the next project, which he believes surpasses Caos, is ready to reach listeners immediately. “No, there won’t be another long wait,” he stated, emphasising that timing alone is not the obstacle.
The singer lamented that contractual restrictions prevent him from releasing music until late next year. He described the situation as part of a broader challenge within the music industry, where artists often struggle to maintain control over their own creative output.
Miguel is unapologetic about his stance: “I would sooner release it independently than allow them to profit from a deal that isn’t fair,” he said. While he recognised that some label personnel genuinely want to do right by him, the overall deal structure has reached a breaking point for the independent-minded artist.
Beyond his own career, Miguel’s vision extends to supporting other artists navigating similar challenges. Having secured ownership of his intellectual property, he intends to use his experience to educate and guide emerging musicians toward more equitable arrangements.
Reflecting on Caos, Miguel admitted that returning to album-making stirred unexpected emotions, particularly in response to the overwhelmingly positive reaction from his peers and mentors. The level of engagement and thoughtful feedback exceeded anything he had experienced in his career.
“It’s incredibly reassuring to receive such heartfelt messages from other artists,” Miguel said. “It reminds me why we create music in the first place.”
