Aban Ahmed, the youngest son of the late gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed, has died following a high-speed road accident on a highway in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh. The fatal collision occurred on Thursday morning when the vehicle in which he was travelling lost control and slammed into a concrete central road divider.
According to statements released by local police officials, Aban was travelling in a white Hyundai Creta alongside several companions. The group was en route to Jhansi District Jail, where Aban intended to visit his incarcerated elder brother. As the speeding SUV navigated the highway stretch, the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to collide violently with the divider. Aban and another occupant, identified as Sonu, sustained fatal injuries and died instantly at the scene. Three other passengers sustained critical injuries during the crash.
Jhansi Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) BBGTS Murthy confirmed the timeline of the emergency response, stating that police units were dispatched to the crash site shortly after receiving an alert at around 10:30 am. Emergency services extricated the victims from the wreckage before transporting them to a nearby medical college hospital. Hospital staff immediately admitted the three surviving passengers, who remain under intensive care for severe injuries.
This fatal crash adds to the turbulent history of Atiq Ahmed’s immediate family. Atiq, a notorious underworld figure who later entered electoral politics as a Member of Parliament, fathered five sons whose lives have been defined by criminal investigations, extended detentions, and violent deaths. His eldest son, Umar Ahmed, is currently serving time in Lucknow Jail, while his second son, Ali Ahmed, remains incarcerated in Jhansi Jail—the intended destination of Aban’s journey on Thursday.
The family’s third son, Asad Ahmed, was killed in April 2023 during an armed encounter with the Uttar Pradesh Police Special Task Force in Jhansi. With the fourth son, Ahzam Ahmed, currently out of custody, Aban’s death represents another sudden casualty within the family fold.
The family’s legal troubles and violent history made international headlines on 15 April 2023, when Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were assassinated in Prayagraj. The brothers were being escorted by police under armed guard for a routine medical check-up when three gunmen disguised as media professionals opened fire at point-blank range, killing both on live television. Prior to his death, Atiq Ahmed faced over 100 criminal indictments spanning murder, kidnapping, extortion, and land grabbing. In March 2023, just weeks before his assassination, a special court had convicted him in a 2006 kidnapping case, handing down a sentence of life imprisonment.
