Dhaka, Bangladesh – The court has granted a five-day remand for Khadija Yasmin, daughter of notorious gangster Subrata Bain, in connection with the high-profile murder case of Jubo Dal leader Arif Sikdar. The order was issued on Thursday by Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sarah Farzana Haque.
State counsel Syed Golam Murtuja Ibn-e-Islam confirmed the development, explaining that the case had been filed at Hatirjheel Police Station. Investigating Officer, DB Inspector Md. Majharul Islam, had previously requested a seven-day remand for Khadija on Tuesday. However, due to the absence of the case’s primary documentation, the court had initially ordered her detention in custody. Once the official files were presented, the remand hearing was scheduled for Thursday, during which the prosecution submitted arguments in favour of Khadija’s remand while the defence requested bail and cancellation of the remand. Ultimately, the magistrate approved a five-day remand to facilitate further investigation.
The remand petition details how Subrata Bain and his daughter Khadija allegedly began asserting dominance over parts of Dhaka, particularly the Mogbazar and Hatirjheel areas, after 5 August 2024. According to investigators, they considered Arif Sikdar a rival in this territorial contest. In what authorities describe as a premeditated attack, Arif was shot on the instructions and planning of Subrata Bain and Khadija. Preliminary evidence indicates Khadija’s direct involvement, and further investigation is ongoing to establish the full extent of her role.
The FIR notes that Arif Sikdar, who served as Assistant Sports Secretary of the Jubo Dal for Dhaka North’s 36th Ward, was shot on the night of 19 April 2025 in front of “The Jhil Café” in Hatirjheel. He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition, where he succumbed to his injuries two days later, on 21 April.
Following the shooting, Arif’s sister, Rima Akter, filed a case of attempted murder against Subrata Bain and ten others at Hatirjheel Police Station. After Arif’s death, the case was upgraded to a murder investigation. Subrata Bain was arrested from Kushtia in May and subjected to questioning while in remand. Khadija Yasmin was apprehended by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) from Comilla on Monday. She is now in custody to facilitate further interrogation and the ongoing investigation.
