IDRA Names Top Insurers for 2025 Excellence Awards

In a strategic bid to restore public trust and encourage institutional transparency, the Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority (IDRA) has announced the recipients of the IDRA Insurance Excellence Award 2025. By identifying the most reliable performers in both the life and general insurance sectors, the regulator aims to create a benchmark for corporate governance in Bangladesh’s financial landscape.

A Regulatory Stamp of Approval

The decision, finalised during IDRA’s 192nd board meeting, follows an exhaustive evaluation of financial discipline, operational efficiency, and claim settlement records. According to a circular signed by Executive Director Monira Begum, the awards highlight companies that have successfully balanced profit with policyholder protection.

For the Life Insurance category, the rankings saw MetLife Bangladesh taking the top spot, followed by domestic giants Pragati Life and Delta Life. Notably, the state-owned Jiban Bima Corporation secured fourth place, reflecting a positive shift in public sector management.

Excellence in the General Sector

In the Non-Life (General) Insurance category, Pragati Insurance Limited emerged as the market leader for 2025. Closely following was the state-owned Sadharan Bima Corporation, which continues to hold a dominant position in the industry. Reliance Insurance and Green Delta Insurance—two firms renowned for their digital innovation and rapid claim processing—secured the third and fourth positions respectively.

The fifth position for general insurers was split between three stalwarts: Eastland Insurance, Sena Kalyan Insurance, and United Insurance, illustrating a high level of parity among the industry’s top tier.

Driving Reform through Recognition

Analysts suggest that these awards are more than just honorary; they serve as a “flight to quality” guide for consumers. In an industry often hampered by negative perceptions regarding claim delays, the IDRA’s public endorsement of these 13 companies (6 life and 7 non-life) provides a roadmap for policyholders seeking security.

The formal prize-giving ceremony is expected to be a major event in the financial calendar, with the IDRA hinting that these rankings will now be updated annually to ensure that “excellence” remains a moving target for all registered insurers.
