Major Fire Ravages Warehouse in Gazipur

A devastating fire broke out late on Friday night at a jute warehouse located in Nasar Market, under Konabari Police Station in Gazipur. The blaze, which caused significant material damage, was brought under control after two hours of strenuous effort by local fire service teams.

Three units of the fire service responded promptly to the emergency. According to Mohammad Mamun, Deputy Assistant Director of the Fire Service, preliminary investigations suggest that the fire was triggered by an electrical short circuit. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the incident.

The warehouse, which spans approximately 7,000 square feet, stored a variety of goods including jute fabrics, cartons, and assorted merchandise. Mamun noted that the fire caused extensive damage to these materials. Despite the severity of the blaze, the fire service successfully prevented the fire from spreading to neighbouring buildings.

Local sources and fire service officials reported that the first alert was received around midnight. Two units from the Konabari Modern Fire Station and one unit from the Sarabo Modern Fire Station rushed to the scene. Their coordinated efforts contained the fire within two hours, preventing further escalation.

Initial assessments estimate the direct loss from the fire at around BDT 7 million, while the value of salvaged goods is approximately BDT 50 million. The incident has left local business owners and warehouse operators deeply concerned about fire safety and risk management.

Following the incident, fire service officials urged warehouse owners and the local business community to enhance fire safety measures.
