Al-Arafah Islamic Bank Limited (AIBL) has announced a temporary suspension of all banking services from 30 January to 7 February 2026, spanning a total of nine days. The bank stated that this planned interruption is necessary to implement a major Core Banking System (CBS) upgrade, aimed at enhancing digital security and providing customers with more advanced and efficient banking services.
According to the bank, the upgrade forms part of a long-term strategic plan to ensure that AIBL’s operations continue to comply with Shariah principles, while simultaneously aligning with modern digital banking standards. The initiative has received approval from Bangladesh Bank, recognising it as a strategically significant step towards improving overall service quality.
During this period, all online platforms—including ATMs, mobile banking, and internet banking services—will be completely unavailable. Customers have been advised to make prior arrangements for any urgent financial transactions.
Branch-based services will also be affected, although the impact on customers is expected to be somewhat mitigated due to weekends and a public holiday during the suspension period. Specifically, the branches will remain closed on 30–31 January (weekend) and 4 February (Shab-e-Barat public holiday). Limited branch services are scheduled to resume from 5 February, with full operations expected to restart on 8 February.
The following table summarises the service schedule during the upgrade:
| Date | Branch Services | Online/ATM Services |
|---|---|---|
| 30–31 January 2026 | Closed (Weekend) | Suspended |
| 1–3 February 2026 | Counter services closed | Suspended |
| 4 February 2026 | Closed (Public Holiday) | Suspended |
| 5–7 February 2026 | Limited branch services | Suspended |
| From 8 February 2026 | Full branch & online services | Fully operational |
AIBL has urged customers to plan ahead for cash withdrawals, fund transfers, and other essential transactions to avoid inconvenience. The bank has also emphasised that, following the upgrade, the security, functionality, and convenience of both digital and branch services will be significantly enhanced, providing a stronger and more reliable banking experience.
This initiative is being described as one of the most substantial technological transformations in the bank’s history. It reflects AIBL’s commitment to maintaining contemporary banking standards while upholding the principles of Islamic finance, reinforcing both operational efficiency and customer confidence.
