All set to welcome ‘Pahela Baishakh’ in Rangpur. All necessary preparations have been completed to welcome ‘Pahela Baishakh’, the Bengali New Year-1430, amid traditional festivities and tight security measures in the district on April 14 (Friday) next.
The district administration, Rangpur City Corporation, educational institutions and other organisations have chalked out programs to welcome ‘Pahela Baishakh’ with traditional festivities and fanfare in the city in line with the spirit of War of Liberation.

Official sources said the district administration will bring out a huge colorful ‘Baishakhi’ procession carrying festoons, placards, banners and singing ‘Baishakhi’ and folk songs from Town Hall premises to welcome the Bengali New Year 1430 in the morning.

Divisional Commissioner Md. Habibur Rahman will inaugurate the procession with Deputy Inspector General for Rangpur Range Police Mohd Abdul Alim Mahmud, Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Nure Alam Mina, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Chitralekha Nazneen, Superintendent of Police Md. Ferdous Ali Chowdhury, District Council Chairman heroic freedom fighter Mosaddek Hossain Bablu and officials and dignitaries.

Tens of hundreds of people of all ages, wearing traditional dresses and carrying festoons, placards, banners and singing `Esho Hey Baishakh, Esho Esho’ will participate in the main ‘Baishakhi’ procession to welcome ‘Pahela Baishakh.’

The procession will reach Zila School ground after parading the main city street.Business community leaders said celebration of ‘Chaitra Sankranti’, the last day of the outgoing year, will begin on Thursday in hats, bazars, groceries and important places with traditional ‘Halkhata’ for renewal of business accounts clearing dues.

While welcoming the ‘Pahela Baishakh’, the educational institutions will highlight the recognition of ‘Mongol Shobhayatra’ by UNESCO as the important global Intangible Cultural Heritage.Besides, government departments, non-governmental, socio-cultural, professional, business and other organisations and private bodies have also taken up programs to celebrate the auspicious occasion of the Bengali Nation.

Traditional ‘Baishakhi’ programs will be performed simultaneously by artists of Shishu Academy and Shilpokola Academy on Banyan Tree premises at Zila School and Sommilito Sangskritik Jote on Central Shaheed Minar premises in the city.

Improved traditional Bangalee diets will be served by the authorities concerned to the inmates of hospitals, Rangpur Central Jail and ‘Shishu Paribars’ (orphanages) in the district.A two-day colorful ‘Folk Fair’ marking celebration of the Bengali New Year-1430 will be arranged at Town Hall premises in the city.

All museums and places with archaeological importance will remain open on April 14 and children, adolescents, students and children with special needs can enter there without tickets on the day.Rangpur Metropolitan Police, District Police, RAB-13 and other law enforcement agencies will ensure leak-proof security during celebrations of the ‘Baishakhi’ programs.
