A school teacher in Tarash Upazila, Sirajganj, has been accused of marrying one of his students, prompting his first wife to file a formal complaint with local authorities. The complaint was lodged on Wednesday, 19 November, at Tarash Police Station.
The accused, Monowar Hossain, son of Md. Fazlul Haque of Sholapara in Tarash municipality, serves as a physical education teacher at Raghunili Mongalbari High School. His first wife, Mosha Shamima Jahan, alleges that Hossain married again without her consent.
In her complaint, Shamima Jahan stated that her husband had been romantically involved with one of his students. She explained that she had been unable to locate him for several days. Upon receiving confidential information on Tuesday, 18 November, she went to the student’s home and reportedly found her husband and the student together in a room. When she confronted them, she claimed that Hossain and the student’s family verbally abused her and forced her to leave.
Shamima Jahan said, “My husband was previously involved in a romantic relationship with another student from his school, which caused widespread criticism. I am also a teacher. My elder daughter is married. Considering our family’s honour, I tried to make my husband realise his mistakes, but nothing worked. Finally, I was compelled to file a complaint.”
Monowar Hossain has denied the allegations of marriage.
Tarash Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Md. Ziaur Rahman, confirmed the complaint and said, “The teacher’s wife has lodged a complaint. Further legal action will be taken following an investigation.”
The case has drawn attention in the local community, highlighting concerns about professional conduct and the safeguarding of students in educational institutions. Authorities have assured the public that the matter will be investigated thoroughly in accordance with the law.
