‘Amra Shurjomukhi’ Celebrates Golden Jubilee with Live Performance by ‘Joler Gaan’

The esteemed cultural organisation Amra Shurjomukhi is celebrating its 50th anniversary this evening with a grand musical event, reflecting on five decades of contributions to Bangladesh’s artistic landscape. Founded on 30 November 1975, the organisation is commemorating its Golden Jubilee with a performance by the acclaimed folk-fusion ensemble Joler Gaan at the Nilima Ibrahim Auditorium, Mohila Samity.

The evening promises a rich tapestry of music, memories, and reflections on the organisation’s half-century-long journey. The programme will commence with an opening address by Shafiqul Islam Selim, the current Executive Director, who will trace the organisation’s evolution and cultural impact. The event will also feature prominent figures from Bangladesh’s music scene. Syed Abdul Hadi, a celebrated musician, will attend as Chief Guest, while Ekushey Padak-winning vocalists Shaheen Samad and Fatema-tuz-Zohra will serve as Special Guests, sharing insights on the organisation’s enduring significance in promoting cultural heritage.

Rana Sarwar, manager and guitarist of Joler Gaan, expressed enthusiasm for the occasion:

“It is an honour to join the ‘Amra Shurjomukhi’ family for their 50th-year celebrations. Our philosophy remains simple: we perform based on the immediate wishes of the audience. We anticipate a great response and promise an unforgettable experience for our listeners.”

Formed nearly two decades ago, Joler Gaan has emerged as a leading folk-fusion band in Bangladesh. Despite the absence of its original leader, Rahul Ananda, who has been abroad for over a year, the group continues to deliver performances with unwavering dedication under the leadership of founding member Konok Aditya. Their participation in the Golden Jubilee exemplifies a seamless blend of tradition and contemporary folk music, celebrating both the heritage of Amra Shurjomukhi and the evolving soundscape of modern Bangladeshi music.

The event is expected to draw a diverse audience, including cultural enthusiasts, artists, and patrons, underlining the organisation’s enduring role as a beacon of artistic expression. As the evening unfolds, it promises not only a musical spectacle but also a heartfelt tribute to the vitality and resilience of Bangladesh’s cultural community.
