Anupam Roy’s Dhaka Concert Postponed; Full Ticket Refunds Promised

The scheduled concert of acclaimed Indian singer, songwriter, and composer Anupam Roy in Dhaka has been abruptly cancelled just a day before the event, leaving fans disappointed and organisers citing an unexpected directive from authorities.

The performance, which was set to take place on Friday (26 June) at the United Convention Centre in the capital, was part of a special musical event titled One True Sound. The concert had been jointly organised by Yamaha Music Bangladesh and Triple Time Communications, with performances also planned from the ensemble Bengal Symphony.

According to Yamaha Music Bangladesh, all preparations for the event had been completed and the necessary official permissions had already been obtained. However, the organisers stated that they were later instructed by government authorities not to proceed with the event due to what was described as “unavoidable circumstances”. Following that directive, the concert was officially suspended.

In a statement, the organisers assured that ticket holders would not face any financial loss. Full refunds will be issued through the official ticketing platform, with the process expected to be communicated in detail within the next 24 hours via Yamaha Music Bangladesh’s official social media channels. They also indicated that a new schedule for the concert may be considered, depending on future decisions.

Anupam Roy himself confirmed the cancellation, saying he was informed by the organisers on Thursday morning. The sudden change came just hours before preparations were entering their final stage.

The event had generated considerable anticipation among music enthusiasts in Dhaka. Known for his distinctive voice and widely popular compositions in Bengali cinema and independent music, Anupam Roy’s visit was expected to draw a large audience. The inclusion of Bengal Symphony had further heightened interest in the evening’s programme.

While no detailed explanation has been officially provided regarding the reason behind the cancellation, organisers have emphasised that the decision was beyond their control. For now, both fans and performers are left waiting for clarity on whether the concert will be rescheduled in the coming weeks.
