In a brazen assault on law enforcement, police officers conducting a drug raid in Shreepur, Gazipur, were attacked by local criminals, resulting in injuries to three officers and the rescue of two suspects. Ten individuals have been arrested in connection with the incident, which underscores the growing boldness of criminal networks in the area.

According to police sources, the operation began around 10:50 PM, targeting suspected drug traffickers in the Maona area. Officers arrested Lucky Akter (28), Jahangir Alam (26), and Md. Rajib (33), recovering yaba tablets from their possession. During the raid, local drug syndicates, aided by accomplices armed with firearms, machetes, iron rods, sticks, and bricks, launched a violent counterattack on the police.
The assault resulted in damage to two police pickup vans. In the chaos, the attackers managed to free Rajib and Jahangir Alam before additional police reinforcements arrived. The injured officers were promptly taken to Shreepur Upazila Health Complex for treatment.
Police have seized three motorcycles abandoned by the fleeing attackers. A case has been filed at Shreepur Police Station, naming 24 identified individuals and 80–90 unidentified suspects. An additional case pertains specifically to the drugs recovered during the raid.
Shreepur Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Nasir Ahmed stated, “No leniency will be shown to these criminals. Operations to apprehend them are ongoing. Jahangir Alam, who was freed during the attack, has previous criminal records.”
