A brazen, film-like robbery has been reported in Siddhirganj, on the outskirts of Narayanganj, where an organised gang allegedly looted valuables worth nearly one crore taka from a residential property in the early hours of Monday.
The incident occurred at approximately 3:00 a.m. in the Jalkuri area, behind the Seema Dyeing facility, at a house owned by Golam Mortuza. According to family members, a group of seven to eight armed individuals gained entry by cutting through the iron grille of a rear veranda, indicating a degree of planning and familiarity with the premises.
Once inside, the intruders confronted the occupants—Monjel Morshed, his wife, and their children. The family was swiftly overpowered, their hands and feet bound, and they were confined to a single room. The assailants reportedly identified themselves as robbers and used intimidation, including the display of weapons, to seize control of the household.
During the roughly 20-minute ordeal, the gang forced the victims to hand over keys and proceeded to ransack the property. They systematically searched rooms, targeting cash, gold ornaments, and other valuables before making their escape.
Maez Ibn Morshed, the homeowner’s son, later described the scale of the loss. He stated that the robbers took approximately 250,000 taka in cash, 32 tolas of gold jewellery estimated to be worth around 7.5 million taka, as well as three wristwatches and various expensive garments, including sarees, shoes, and clothing.
Below is a summary of the reported stolen items:

Police officials from Siddhirganj Police Station visited the scene later that morning. Investigating officer Mizanur Rahman confirmed that an inquiry is underway and that legal proceedings are being initiated. He added that authorities are working to identify the perpetrators and determine whether the gang had prior intelligence about the household.
The incident has raised fresh concerns about residential security in rapidly urbanising industrial zones such as Siddhirganj, where a mix of factories and housing developments can sometimes create vulnerabilities.
Law enforcement agencies have urged residents to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity promptly as efforts continue to track down those responsible for the audacious crime.
