Armed Robbers Strike at Farmer’s Home in Monirampur, Jessore

In a chilling pre-dawn incident, a farmer’s home in Monirampur, Jessore, was raided by a gang of masked intruders on Saturday, 20 December. The attackers reportedly assaulted the homeowner and his wife before making off with valuables, including gold jewellery and cash from a recent paddy sale.

The incident occurred around 3:30 am at the residence of Nirmal Das in the Jolkor Rohita Daspara area. According to Mr Das, 7–8 masked individuals arrived in a private car and motorcycles, forcibly breaking open the gate to gain entry. They physically attacked Mr Das and his wife Sushama Das, threatening the family’s two children with death if they raised an alarm.

“They struck me on the head with a rod when I tried to escape, causing me to fall to the floor,” said Nirmal Das. “They then assaulted my wife, daughter, and son-in-law, ransacked the cupboards, and stole 5–7 tolas of gold jewellery along with 40,000 taka in cash. They threatened the children if we tried to shout for help.”

Mrs Das added: “I tried to open the window and scream, but they held my face and assaulted me, brandishing a pistol to intimidate us.”

The stolen cash came from a recent paddy sale; Mr Das had sold 150 maunds of rice, receiving 100,000 taka, from which he had paid 55,000 taka of debt and kept the remainder at home. The thieves had parked their vehicles at a nearby bamboo grove before committing the robbery and fled with the loot in the same car.

Police arrived at the scene in the morning, led by Monirampur Thana Officer-in-Charge, Raziullah Khan. The Khedapara Camp police, under SI Shahabur Rahman, are currently reviewing CCTV footage from nearby markets to identify the culprits.
