Army Seizes Pistol and Machetes in Dhunot Raid

In a swift and coordinated operation, the Bangladesh Army has apprehended two men suspected of involvement in criminal activities within the Dhunot upazila of Bogra. The special mission, conducted on Thursday, 15 January 2026, resulted in the recovery of a firearm and several bladed weapons, marking a significant step in the military’s current mandate to stabilise national security ahead of the upcoming elections.

Strategic Intervention in Babur Bazar

The operation was spearheaded by Lieutenant Colonel Tanveer Ahmed Tamal, stationed at the Youth Development Camp near the Bogra three-prong railway gate. Acting on a tip-off regarding the presence of illicit arms, military personnel targeted a rented property in the Baberbari Babur Bazar area, located within the Nimkachi union.

The suspects had reportedly been residing as tenants in a house owned by a local man named Khokon Mia. Upon breaching the premises at approximately 4:00 pm, security forces conducted an exhaustive search, leading to the discovery of:

  • One semi-automatic pistol.

  • Three large, sharp machetes (locally known as chapattis).

The apprehended individuals are both residents of the neighbouring Shajahanpur upazila and have been identified by local authorities as “top-tier” criminal suspects on police lists. Their details are outlined in the following table:

Commitment to Public Order

The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Dhunot Police Station, Atiqul Islam, confirmed that the military successfully handed over the suspects and the confiscated arsenal to the police for further legal processing. According to official reports, this raid is part of a nationwide “maximum alert” status maintained by the armed forces to ensure that the internal security environment remains stable during the current political climate.

Military spokespersons have reiterated that such operations will continue across the district to dismantle organised crime syndicates and remove illegal armaments from residential areas. The suspects are now expected to face formal charges under the Arms Act, while investigations continue to determine if they were planning specific acts of sabotage or violence.
