Arsenal have reportedly made no approach for Erling Haaland despite growing speculation over the Manchester City striker’s future amid uncertainty surrounding the club’s financial case.
Haaland has become one of the most prominent names in transfer discussions following the findings against Manchester City in the Premier League’s financial rules case. City were found liable for 114 breaches in the case referred to in the report, prompting renewed debate over the potential consequences for the club and the future of several of its leading players.
Haaland is naturally at the centre of that speculation. The Norway international is one of City’s most valuable and recognisable players, and reports have suggested that several European clubs could be monitoring his situation. Arsenal have also been mentioned in connection with the forward, but the latest information does not indicate that the north London club have taken any concrete steps to pursue him.
According to a report by TeamTalk, Arsenal have not held discussions over Haaland. His representatives have also indicated that they have received no contact from Arsenal regarding a possible transfer. The claims of an approach therefore appear to have moved ahead of the available evidence, with no confirmed negotiations between the two parties at present.
Arsenal are, however, understood to be looking for another forward as part of their longer-term squad planning. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has reported that the club are considering attacking reinforcements for 2027. Arsenal previously tried to sign Vinicius Junior and Julian Alvarez during the last summer transfer window, but neither pursuit resulted in a deal.
That search for a forward does not necessarily mean Haaland is the specific player Arsenal are attempting to sign. The club’s interest in strengthening its attack can involve several potential targets, while a formal approach to an individual player would represent a separate stage of the process.
Haaland’s contractual situation at Manchester City also makes any potential transfer particularly complicated. The 26-year-old signed a new long-term agreement with City in January 2025, with his current contract running until 2034. That commitment leaves the striker tied to the club for several more seasons.
Reports have also stated that Haaland’s contract does not contain a relegation- or punishment-related release clause that would automatically allow him to leave if City were to suffer a major sporting sanction or drop out of the Premier League. Consequently, any future change to City’s status would not, on its own, provide Haaland with an automatic route out of the club.
The financial case remains another major factor. Although City have been found liable in relation to the 114 charges mentioned in the report, a final punishment has not yet been announced. The club have said they will appeal the relevant findings, leaving the eventual consequences unresolved.
Until the disciplinary and legal process reaches a definitive stage, speculation about the futures of Haaland and other City players is likely to continue. For now, however, there is no confirmed indication that Arsenal have contacted Haaland or his representatives, while his long-term contract continues to keep him closely tied to Manchester City.
