In a vigorous show of solidarity, artists, cultural workers, writers, and journalists staged a protest in Dhaka on Tuesday afternoon against the recent attacks on prominent cultural and media offices, including The Daily Star, Chhayanaut, and Udichi. Organised under the banner of the “Drishyamadhyam Artist Society”, the demonstration took place at the footpath adjacent to Abahani Ground, Satmasjid Road, Dhanmondi, starting at 4:00 PM.
The event drew participants from across the cultural and journalistic community. Among the notable attendees were Luva Nahid Chowdhury, actor Azad Abul Kalam, Azmeri Haque Bandhon, Bakar Bakul, and Arup Rahi. Speakers at the protest demanded prompt and fair justice for the killing of Sharif Osman Hadi, the spokesperson of Inquilab Manch. They also strongly condemned the vandalism, arson, looting, and destruction of musical instruments at the offices of The Daily Star, Prothom Alo, Chhayanaut, and Udichi, calling for accountability and strict legal action against the perpetrators.
In a parallel initiative, Chhayanaut Cultural Organisation organised a musical solidarity rally in front of its building. The event featured performances by singers, writers, journalists, and cultural activists, reinforcing the collective voice of the artistic community against violence and intimidation.
The participants sang several iconic Bangladeshi songs of unity and resilience, including:
